Batu Malin Kundang (Malin Kundang Stone) is located on Air Manis Beach, the legend of Malin Kundang is a folklore from West Sumatra about a human who turned to stone. It is a mother's curse or curse towards her own child, who is the only son of the puppet, who has disobeyed it. The legend is very famous in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia, until it has become one of the icons of Indonesia.
Padang food is so fabulously delicious and even top-ranked in the world. The answer is simply due to their multitude of fresh herbs and aromatic spices used when cooking – not to mention the lengthy cooking process, creating distinctive, yet tempting flavors.
1. Rendang
Rendang has gained fame in recent years. This dark beef curry is so rich in spices that many easily fall in love with it.

Padang is the capital city of West Sumatra, and it becomes the largest city on the western coast of Sumatra Island. During the Dutch colonial, Padang was one of major cities in Sumatra, together with Medan, Batam, Palembang and Pekanbaru. Has awarded by Adipura Award for 17 times and Adipura Kencana for 3 times as the cleanest and greenest city in Indonesia, make Padang increase their quality in everything.
Padang is the gateway to the Minang highlands. With the largest port on Sumatra’s West Coast; this is a merchant town attracting ships trading in goods such as rubber, cinnamon, coffee, tea, cement and coal. If you take a stroll down to the old colonial waterfront you will see century old warehouses stocked with fragrant cinammon and other spices waiting to be shipped to Jakarta and Singapore.
The Batang Arau River flows through the city and it is quite a sight to see the collection of small boats and hand paddled ferries that line the riverside. Padang city is the center of the economy with the highest income number per capita in West Sumatra. In addition, the city became a center of education and health in the region of central Sumatra, it supported by the existence of a number of universities and health facilities.
As a city of art and culture, Padang popular with the legend of Malin Kundang and Sitti Nurbaya, and it annually been held the festival to support the tourism sector.
Padang residents are mostly from Minangkabau ethnic group. Another Ethnic settled are Javanese, Chinese, Nias, Mentawai, Batak, Acehnese, and Tamil. Minang people in Padang are immigrants from other regions in the province of West Sumatra.

For new students are advised to register early for on-campus accommodation, however they must be prepared not to get a place on campus. Therefore it is worth preparing to look for accommodations outside of campus. Although this may require time, additional costs and patience. However, students do not need to worry too much about it. International Office staff will help new students to find suitable accommodation on request.
If before their arrival in Padang new students have not found a suitable place to live, they will be advised to stay in temporary accommodation until they find accommodation, both on campus and off campus.
Andalas University provides numerous facilities to support student needs including academic buildings, high technology laboratories, modern library, student dormitory with a beautiful view. Andalas University always offer support every step of the way, ensuring every student can achieve their potential.

Located in the hilly region of Limau Manis, Pauh Subdistrict, approximately 15 Km from Padang, the capital of West Sumatra. Andalas University campus covers an area of 500 hectares. This area is referred to as Bukik Karamuntiang / Hill of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa, and is located at an altitude of ± 255 m above the sea. The campus faces the City of Padang with views of the blue Indian Ocean stretching to the West. In the eastern part of the row lined up. While on the North and South sides there is a valley, each of which is fed by a tributary. Beautiful and green natural conditions, certainly provide a comfortable atmosphere and beautiful natural panorama. Of course Unand Limau Manis Campus is very conducive for learning and research to explore and develop science and technology for the glory of the nation.
The building has a unique architecture: a combination of the traditional Minangkabau roof (buffalo horn) model and modern style structure. The university is in the process of completing its facilities to accommodate academic and extracurricular activities.
Almost all faculties are located at Limau Limau Manis, except the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Public Health, and the Faculty of Dentistry, which is located in the Jati area (first campus), Padang. At present Unand has Campus II in Payakumbuh, about 120 km from Padang, and Campus III in Dharmasraya, about 200 km from Padang.

How to Get to UNAND
By Car
The trip will take about thirty minutes from Padang city centre along regular road. From International Airport Minang Kabau the trip takes about one and a half to two hours.
By Train
Take any of regular trains International Airport Minang Kabau . Hop off at Simpang Haru Station. Every point in the campus is accessible by green angkot (public transportation) and stop at Pasar Baru, and Every point in the campus is accessible by white campus bus, which serves for free.

Application Procedures |
1. The applicants (foreign student candidates) should submit the application directly to the Andalas University (UNAND) Rector by attaching the completed appliaction form (Attachment A. I.1.) (Application form should have been submitted at least 5 months prior to the arrival in Indonesia) 2. The International Office will inform the selected Faculty about the foreign students application. If accepted, then the International Office will forward the acceptance to the University Rector. 3. Andalas Univeristy Rector will respon the acceptance of the applicants through Letter of Acceptance (LoA) (Attachment A.I.2.) 4. Based on the LoA from the University Rector, the applicant can propose the Study Permit to the office of Indonesian Higher Education, Research and Technology in Jakarta through the International Office which will process the Study Permit by completing the Study Permit Application Form (Attachment A.I.3.) 5. After having the Study Permit (Attachment A.I.4.), the applicant will receive Official Acceptance Decree as the student of Andalas University from the University Rector (Attachment A.I.5.) 6. International Office will process the VISA TELEX application at the Jakarta Imigration Office by completing the VISA TELEX application form (Attachment A.I.6.) 7. The approval of VISA TELEX (Attachment A.I.7.) will be sent to the applicant to be followed up by VITAS (Limited Stay Permit) application to the Indonesian Embacy at the applicant’s home country (Attachment A.I.8.). 8. The applicant may depart to Indonesia once he/she has received the VITAS (Attachment A.I.9.) and report the arrival to the International Office of Andalas University. |
